Caring for your tag

Caring for your new tag or keyring

Aluminium

Aluminium is a great choice for a dog tag. It is very lightweight and tarnish resistant.

Aluminium will however naturally scratch and scuff overtime and may become dull.

The good news is that aluminium is easy to clean! Mild soap and water along with fine steel wool    ( ideally 0000 grade) can be used to clean your tag.

You can polish with a microfibre cloth.

Avoid using harsh cleaners or chemicals on your tag.

Brass

Brass is another great choice for a dog tag. It is extremely durable and will not rust, it will however develop a natural patina or tarnish.

Clean with fine steel wool ( ideally 0000 grade) and polish with a microfibre cloth.

You can also polish with a brass polish such as Brasso.

Avoid using harsh cleaners or chemicals on your tag.

How to restore the black lettering

If the black enamel has faded from the design/lettering simply use a sharpie/black permanent marker to fill in the lettering and wipe away the excess.

Any stubborn excess can be removed with a polishing cloth or fine steel wool ( ideally 0000 grade)

We hope you love your purchase. Hand stamping your item means that it will last for years to come. The metal will develop natural scuffs and scratches but we think that adds to the character of your tag. Following the simple care instructions once a month will keep your tag looking it’s best.
